Visara the Dreadful

Visara the Dreadful was originally released as a rare card in the 2002 Onslaught expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The illustration by Kev Walker depicts the Gorgon legend with a focus on dark, visceral fantasy aesthetics, reflecting the set's thematic emphasis on tribal synergies and the oppressive power of the Phage and Akroma storylines. It became a staple of black-aligned control decks due to its ability to systematically eliminate creatures while serving as a resilient flying threat.

The version from the 2003 World Championship Decks was included in the deck piloted by Carlos Romao, who won the 2002 World Championship. These decks were produced as fixed-card replicas of the exact lists played by top competitors, identifiable by the distinctive gold-bordered card backs and facsimile signatures. They were intended to give players an accessible way to experience the mechanics and strategies of professional-level gameplay during that era.
