Where it came from
Vizier of Many Faces was originally introduced in the 2017 Amonkhet set, designed as a rare clone creature that utilizes the embalm mechanic to allow players to return the card from the graveyard as a zombie token copy of a creature. The card was conceptualized by Wizards of the Coast to reflect the Egyptian-inspired lore of the plane, where the ritual of mummification and the persistence of the soul through physical forms played a central role in the set’s mechanical identity.
The 2024 Murders at Karlov Manor Commander printing serves as a thematic reprint that integrates the card into the mystery and investigation aesthetic of the Ravnica setting. The artwork, consistent with the card's history, focuses on the surreal, shifting nature of the creature’s visage, fitting within the broader suite of blue shapeshifter cards that emphasize deception and adaptability during gameplay. It remains a staple for players seeking flexible, graveyard-centric utility in the Commander format.
