Where it came from
Vizier of Remedies was originally printed in the 2017 Amonkhet expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Wizards of the Coast to support the set's -1/-1 counter mechanics. The character, a member of the priesthood in the ancient Egyptian-inspired plane of Amonkhet, was envisioned as a healer who mitigates the damage inflicted by the set's harsh trials. The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Lucas Graciano, who utilized a soft, ethereal palette to distinguish the figure from the more aggressive, combat-focused cards of the same block.
The card gained significant competitive notoriety shortly after its release, becoming a cornerstone of the 'Vizier-Druid' combo deck in the Modern format. By enabling infinite mana through its interaction with Devoted Druid, it transitioned from a standard draft utility piece to a staple of tournament-level play. Its appearance in 'The List'—a rotating collection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast for Set Boosters—ensured the card remained accessible to players as the game's secondary market and competitive metas evolved.
