Where it came from
Vizier of the True was released in 2017 as part of the Hour of Devastation expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set centers on the plane of Amonkhet, a world inspired by Ancient Egyptian mythology that has been corrupted by the elder dragon Nicol Bolas. The card depicts a member of the elite vizier caste tasked with maintaining the rituals of this dying society, reflecting the set’s themes of divine judgment and the transition into a post-apocalyptic narrative.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who utilized a distinct, vibrant art style to emphasize the golden, sun-drenched aesthetic of Amonkhet. The design focuses on the vizier’s ornate regalia, highlighting the intricate details of the civilization’s iconography. Within the game’s competitive landscape, the card was recognized for its utility in limited formats, serving as a solid example of the set’s focus on the 'embrace' mechanic and the protective roles played by the viziers during the cataclysmic events of the storyline.
