Where it came from
Vorinclex, a central figure in the Phyrexians' conquest of the multiverse, appeared as a double-faced card in the 2023 expansion set March of the Machine. This release concluded the long-running Phyrexian story arc, depicting Vorinclex's transition from his monstrous original form into 'The Grand Evolution,' a saga enchantment representing the forced transformation and perfection of worlds under Phyrexian rule.
The card was illustrated by the artist Richard Kane Ferguson, whose signature painterly style brings a grotesque, organic intensity to the Phyrexian aesthetic. Design-wise, the card was intended to capture the relentless, predatory nature of the character, requiring players to build around its unique transformation mechanic to reflect the invasive spread of the machine orthodoxy across different planes of existence.
