Where it came from
Vorinclex, a central figure in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, was reimagined in the 2023 set March of the Machine as the card Vorinclex // The Grand Evolution. This double-faced card depicts the Praetor of the Phyrexian New Phyrexia faction during a pivotal narrative arc where the Phyrexians attempted to invade the entirety of the multiverse. The design captures the character's biological, predatory aesthetic, reflecting the faction's focus on forced perfection through assimilation.
The card was illustrated by the artist Dominik Mayer, who is known for his distinct, stark, and high-contrast style that emphasizes the overwhelming and monstrous nature of the Phyrexians. Within the game's competitive environment, the card was received as a high-impact threat, noted for its ability to transform into a powerful enchantment that accelerates board development. It remains a hallmark of the set's mechanical focus on transformation and shifting power dynamics.
