Where it came from
Wail of the Forgotten is a specialized promotional card released as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set in late 2023. It functions as a mechanically unique sorcery card designed for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, specifically crafted to reward players for interacting with their graveyards while facilitating the set's broader themes of exploration and prehistoric discovery.
The card features distinct, atmospheric artwork commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to reflect the subterranean, eerie aesthetic of the Ixalan cavern depths. This promotional variant was distributed through sanctioned store events, serving as an incentive for community engagement and organized play. It is widely recognized by players for its efficiency in decks that utilize multiple card types, representing a deliberate design choice to broaden the versatility of blue-black control archetypes.
