Wave Goodbye

Wave Goodbye was released in 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander set, a collection of supplemental decks designed to integrate with the main expansion. This card serves as a board-clearing spell specifically tuned for the mechanics of the Ixalan setting, which draws inspiration from Mesoamerican mythology and high-fantasy exploration themes. It functions as a sorcery that returns creatures with counters to their owners' hands, providing a tactical reset that rewards players for managing the complex interactions of counters prevalent in modern magic gameplay.

The card features artwork by illustrator Jason Felix, whose aesthetic approach emphasizes the vibrant, subterranean atmosphere of Ixalan's hidden depths. Felix’s design work for this piece focuses on the fluid, mystical energy of the spell, capturing a sense of displacement that aligns with its mechanical function. The card was well-received by the commander community upon release, particularly by players utilizing decks centered around +1/+1 counters or thematic tribe interactions, as it offers a strategic alternative to traditional, indiscriminate destruction effects.
