What it does

At the beginning of combat on each opponent's turn, that player may exile a card from their graveyard. If the player doesn't, creatures they control can't attack you this turn.

Provenance

Where it came from

Web of Inertia was originally released in the 1996 Magic: The Gathering set titled Mirage. Designed during a period when the game was expanding its mechanical complexity, the card was intended to provide blue decks with a unique defensive enchantment that discouraged combat by punishing opponents for leaving creatures untapped. The card was illustrated by Quinton Hoover, an artist whose lyrical and ethereal style became a cornerstone of the game's early aesthetic.

The card was later included in 'The List', a curated collection of legacy cards that Wizards of the Coast inserts into modern set booster packs to provide players with a taste of Magic's deep history. By featuring the card with its original art and framing, the inclusion honors the legacy of early deck-building strategies while allowing newer players to interact with niche, older mechanics that have largely fallen out of favor in the game's current high-speed competitive landscape.
