Where it came from
The Web of Life and Destiny card, designated 122s, was released as part of a promotional campaign for Marvel's Spider-Man trading card series. Produced in an era where card manufacturers sought to deepen the engagement of collectors with the expansive Spider-Man mythos, these promotional items were typically distributed through comic book shops or included as inserts in industry publications to generate anticipation for the broader base set.
The design of this card leans into the mystical, interconnected lore of the Spider-Verse, emphasizing the cosmic tapestry that links various iterations of the character. Illustrators tasked with the Marvel promo sets often prioritized dynamic, atmospheric depictions intended to capture the tone of the multiversal narratives prevalent in the comics at the time, resulting in a piece that remains a recognizable touchstone for collectors of the character's printed history.
