Where it came from
Wedding Announcement was released in 2021 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Crimson Vow. This card depicts the sinister nuptials of Olivia Voldaren and Edgar Markov, a pivotal narrative event within the Gothic horror-inspired Innistrad plane that centers on the alliance between rival vampire lineages. The design team created this card as an enchantment that generates creature tokens, mechanically representing the growing assembly of wedding guests gathered for the dark ceremony.
The art for the Wedding Festivity version, featured in the Crimson Vow promotional release, was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve. Known for her focus on character-driven compositions, Villeneuve emphasizes the opulence and unsettling formality of the vampire court. The piece was well-received by players and collectors alike for its atmospheric depiction of high-stakes world-building, cementing its status as both a functional centerpiece in gameplay and a striking example of the set’s distinct aesthetic narrative.
