Where it came from
Wedding Announcement, known as Wedding Festivity on its reverse side, was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Innistrad: Crimson Vow. The card is a double-faced enchantment that depicts the gothic horror aesthetic of the Innistrad plane, specifically focusing on the high-society marriage between two vampires, Olivia Voldaren and Edgar Markov. The design reflects the decadent, unsettling atmosphere of the set, emphasizing themes of celebration contrasted with predatory aristocratic tradition.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game whose work is characterized by dramatic lighting and intricate character detail. Voss focused on capturing a sense of opulent dread, utilizing a color palette that aligns with the set's wedding theme while maintaining the darker, macabre tone inherent to the plane of Innistrad. Upon its release, the card became highly regarded in competitive play for its versatility and resource generation, quickly becoming a staple in various formats.
