Where it came from
Wheel of Fate was originally released in the 2006 expansion Time Spiral, a set designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering by utilizing 'timeshifted' mechanics and callbacks to older sets. The card itself serves as a functional color-shifted tribute to the iconic Wheel of Fortune from the game's earliest years, swapping the original's mana cost for a suspend mechanic that allows players to cast it for free after a waiting period.
The 198p collector number refers to the special promo version released with Time Spiral Remastered in 2021. This set was curated to condense the three original sets of the Time Spiral block into a single draftable experience, featuring updated card frames and distinct promotional variants. The artwork for this version retains the striking, surreal aesthetic characteristic of the card's history, continuing the tradition of high-fantasy illustration that defines the franchise's visual identity.
