Where it came from
Wheel of Fate was originally released in the 2006 expansion Time Spiral, a set deeply rooted in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a spiritual successor to the iconic card Wheel of Fortune, it introduced the suspend mechanic, allowing players to cast powerful spells for a reduced cost at the expense of time. This design choice was intended to evoke the set's nostalgic theme by reimagining classic, high-impact effects through the lens of modern keyword abilities.
The art for the Time Spiral Remastered version features the distinctive work of Pete Venters, who has contributed to the game since its early years. The visual direction focuses on the cyclical nature of time, utilizing cosmic and arcane imagery to illustrate the card's function of resetting both players' hands. Upon its inclusion in the Remastered set, which curated the most impactful cards from the original block, it was well-received by players for its ability to balance intense tactical advantage with a mandatory delay.
