Where it came from
Wild Growth first appeared in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as a staple green enchantment intended to accelerate mana production. Its inclusion in Seventh Edition, released in 2001 as the game's seventh core set, marked a return to the card's fundamental role in early-game resource management for green decks.
The artwork for this version was illustrated by Quinton Hoover. Known for his distinctive, flowing style and use of watercolors, Hoover sought to capture the visceral, rapid expansion of nature. His portrayal of organic, climbing vines resonated with players who favored green's philosophy of growth, and his contributions remain some of the most recognizable and beloved visuals from the early eras of the game.
