Where it came from
Wild Growth first appeared in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as a staple green enchantment intended to accelerate mana production. Its inclusion in Seventh Edition, released in 2001, marked a return of this classic effect to the core set, maintaining its utility as a foundational tool for players to ramp up resources during the early game.
The artwork featured in the Seventh Edition printing was illustrated by Cornelius Brudi. His depiction captures the essence of the card’s function, illustrating an organic, magical surge of flora that resonates with the nature-centric themes of the game’s green color identity. Upon its release, the card was widely received as an essential inclusion for deck building, valued for its simplicity and efficiency in green-based strategies.
