Provenance

Where it came from

Wild Growth, a staple green enchantment in Magic: The Gathering, was originally printed in the game's Alpha set. The specific version known as 'Summer Magic,' or Edgar, emerged from a rare 1994 promotional print run intended to correct printing errors found in the Revised Edition. Due to a warehouse oversight, the vast majority of this stock was destroyed, leaving only a minuscule portion to reach the public, which quickly elevated these cards to legendary status among high-end collectors.

The artwork for this particular iteration of Wild Growth was illustrated by Quinton Hoover. Known for his distinctive, flowing style that bridged the gap between fantasy and classical portraiture, Hoover’s depiction of the card focuses on the evocative, organic essence of forest magic. While the artwork itself remained consistent with earlier editions, the Summer Magic print is distinguished by its unique color saturation and corrected rules text, making it a highly sought-after artifact of the game's early developmental history.
