Provenance

Where it came from

Winnower Patrol was released in the Morningtide expansion for Magic: The Gathering in February 2008. As part of the Lorwyn-Morningtide block, the card reflects the set's focus on tribal synergies, specifically highlighting the Kithkin race. The design was crafted to showcase the Kithkin's communal defensive nature, utilizing the 'reinforce' mechanic to allow players to discard the card to bolster their battlefield presence.

The card’s illustration was provided by artist Jesper Ejsing, who contributed to the whimsical, folk-horror aesthetic of the Lorwyn plane. Ejsing focused on portraying the Kithkin as vigilant, stout guardians, emphasizing their armored appearance and defensive posture. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, limited-environment tool that integrated well into white-aligned tribal decks, fitting comfortably within the thematic arc of the Morningtide set.
