Where it came from
Winter Blast originated as part of the Introductory Two-Player Set for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, released by Decipher in 1995. This set was designed to serve as an entry point for new players, providing a balanced experience that introduced the core mechanics of the Light and Dark side conflict. The card itself was created during the early stages of the game's development to provide players with a functional combat effect, reflecting the thematic focus on the skirmishes featured in the original trilogy.
The design of Winter Blast follows the aesthetic established by Decipher's art department, utilizing promotional imagery and stills licensed from Lucasfilm to maintain continuity with the films. Like many early-set cards, the design aimed for clarity and accessibility to help beginners learn the game's timing and power structures. While it was not a centerpiece of competitive meta-play, it remains a nostalgic artifact for enthusiasts who participated in the game's initial launch period.
