Where it came from
Wishing Well was released as part of the Bloomburrow expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2024. The set is notable for its whimsical 'cottagecore' aesthetic, depicting a plane inhabited entirely by anthropomorphic animals. This specific card, designated as a promo variant, reflects the set's focus on immersive, storybook-inspired illustration, designed to evoke a sense of quiet magic within the dense woods of the set's primary setting.
The card mechanics and art were developed by Wizards of the Coast's internal creative team to emphasize the set's themes of resourcefulness and charm. As a promo, the card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the expansion, intended for both gameplay utility and as a collectible piece of art that aligns with the set's distinct illustrative shift toward soft, pastoral imagery.
