Where it came from
Wishing Well was released as part of the Bloomburrow expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2024. As a card within a set centered on a whimsical, woodland-themed plane inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, it embodies the folkloric charm of the setting. The card mechanics encourage players to interact with the top of their library, reflecting the thematic trope of making a wish and hoping for a favorable outcome.
The artwork for this promo version maintains the soft, illustrative aesthetic characteristic of the Bloomburrow artistic direction. It captures the cozy, storybook atmosphere that the set's creative team, led by Wizards of the Coast, intended to evoke to distinguish the plane from more traditional high-fantasy environments. The design was well-received by players for its thematic consistency and its utility as a utility-focused artifact within the game's broader ecosystem.
