Withered Wretch

Withered Wretch was originally introduced in the 2002 Scourge expansion for Magic: The Gathering as a powerful utility creature designed to combat graveyard-reliant strategies. When Wizards of the Coast released the Time Spiral set in 2006, they included a specialized 'Timeshifted' bonus sheet that featured 121 iconic cards from the game's history, reprinted with their original art and the distinct purple expansion symbol to evoke nostalgia and celebrate the game's long evolution.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and celebrated illustrators from the game’s early years. His depiction of the Wretch captures a grim, desiccated figure reflecting the card’s ability to exile resources from an opponent's graveyard. The Timeshifted version was received warmly by the player base, serving as a functional staple for competitive play while acting as a tactile piece of history for those who valued the aesthetic and mechanical design language of the early 2000s.
