Provenance

Where it came from

Wrath of God was printed as part of the 1994 Summer Magic set, also known as Edgar. This set was intended to be a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, designed to resolve various printing errors and color saturation issues present in earlier releases. Despite these intentions, the set itself suffered from a catastrophic production error, leading to a limited release that has since become one of the most significant rarities in the history of Magic: The Gathering.

The artwork for this version retains the iconic depiction by Quinton Hoover, who provided the illustration for the card in its earliest incarnations. Hoover’s design focused on a powerful, ethereal representation of divine judgment, which quickly became a hallmark of the game's aesthetic. Because the Summer Magic print run was almost entirely destroyed due to the production flaws, the few surviving copies represent a rare intersection of intended quality control and accidental scarcity, making them highly sought after by historical collectors.
