Provenance

Where it came from

Disenchant was released as part of the Summer Magic set, also known as Edgar, in 1994. This set was produced by Wizards of the Coast to address printing errors and card stock issues found in the original Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering, intended primarily for the international market. The set is notable for its slightly brighter card faces and the distinctive, crisp printing quality that differentiates it from the rest of the core sets of that era.

The card illustration was originally provided by Jesper Myrfors, who served as the game's first art director. His minimalist, functional approach to the card art was designed to reflect the simple, direct nature of the card's effect: removing enchantments from the battlefield. Upon its release, the card became a staple utility spell in white decks, praised by early players for its efficiency and essential role in sideboard strategies during the game's formative years.
