Where it came from
The Wurm token, numbered 24 in the Amonkhet set of Magic: The Gathering, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2017. It was designed to accompany the card Sandwurm Convergence, representing the massive, desert-dwelling creatures that inhabit the Egyptian-inspired plane of Amonkhet. Tokens serve as functional representations of creatures created by game spells or abilities, allowing players to keep track of their presence and power levels during play.
The artwork for this token was created by artist Mathias Kollros, who was tasked with visualizing the monstrous, segmented nature of the Wurm within the sun-drenched aesthetic of the set. The design emphasizes the creature's formidable, armored appearance to reflect its strength in the game's mechanics. As a standard inclusion in booster packs, it remains a common piece of ephemera for players who utilize the specific cards that generate these tokens.
