Provenance

Where it came from

The Wurm token, numbered 008 in the Scars of Mirrodin token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2010 to accompany cards from the 'Scars of Mirrodin' expansion. These tokens were designed to represent the 6/6 green Wurm creatures frequently summoned by specific cards within the block, such as Wurmcoil Engine, providing players with a physical battlefield marker to track temporary or created game pieces during matches.

The art for this token reflects the distinct aesthetic of the Mirrodin plane, characterized by its metallic, industrial landscape fused with organic life. The illustration highlights the biomechanical transition typical of the setting, where flesh and machine meld together under the influence of the Phyrexian oil. As a functional accessory for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, it serves both as an essential utility for competitive play and a thematic artifact documenting the visual evolution of the game’s multiverse.
