Where it came from
The Wurm token, assigned collector number 31 within the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to support the mechanical requirements of the expansion. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are supplementary cards representing creatures or objects created by the effects of spells or permanents, and this specific Wurm token serves as a physical representation for various cards in the set that generate 6/6 green Wurm creature tokens.
The artwork for this token reflects the art deco-inspired, industrial aesthetic of New Capenna, a plane defined by its organized crime families and sprawling urban landscape. The illustration captures the subterranean and powerful nature of the creature, consistent with the visual language established for the set’s creature tokens. As a utility card, it was received as a functional necessity for players engaging with the Commander preconstructed decks released alongside the main set.
