Where it came from
Yisan, the Wanderer Bard first appeared in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2015. This specific iteration, numbered 334, hails from the 2023 Commander Masters set, which was designed to celebrate the most popular elements of the Commander format by reprinting iconic cards with updated treatments and thematic cohesion.
The character was illustrated by Chase Stone, who depicted Yisan as a nomadic storyteller wielding a lute-like instrument. The design intent behind the card focuses on the 'verse counter' mechanic, reflecting the lore of a bard who draws power from his songs to summon creatures of increasing complexity directly onto the battlefield. It has since become a staple card for green-aligned decks that prioritize creature-based utility and progressive board development.
