Anhang an Goethes Werke: Abtheilung für Gespräche. Nachträge, 1755-1832

This volume serves as a supplementary critical apparatus to the collected conversations of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, covering the extensive period of 1755 to 1832. Published as a necessary addition to the broader 'Anhang an Goethes Werke' series, it functions as a scholarly repository intended to capture the incidental, ephemeral, and previously undocumented remarks of Germany's most prominent literary figure. The intent behind this compilation was to provide researchers and admirers with a comprehensive record of the dialogue that defined Goethe's social and intellectual orbit, bridging the gaps left by the primary canonical editions of his works.

The design and editorial structure of this series reflect the meticulous, often exhaustive tradition of 19th and early 20th-century German philology. By categorizing the 'Nachträge' or addenda, the editors aimed to synthesize fragmented historical accounts and personal diaries into a coherent bibliographic resource. While the primary authorship is attributed to Goethe, the structural integrity of this volume is a testament to the rigorous standards of the period's archival science, ensuring that these peripheral conversations were preserved as essential historical artifacts rather than mere literary footnotes.
