Catalogus der muziekbibliotheek van D.F. Scheurleer

The Catalogus der muziekbibliotheek van D.F. Scheurleer represents the definitive inventory of the extensive private music collection amassed by Daniel François Scheurleer, a prominent Dutch banker and passionate musicologist active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Published in several volumes starting in the early 1920s, this work was compiled to document a vast array of musical manuscripts, early printed scores, and theoretical treatises that Scheurleer had meticulously gathered over his lifetime to preserve European musical history.

The design of the catalog reflects the scholarly rigor characteristic of Dutch bibliographical projects of the interwar period. Scheurleer, who served as a central figure in the Dutch musical community, aimed to make his private collection accessible to researchers and institutions, eventually ensuring much of it was preserved for the public. The catalog remains a standard reference tool for music historians and archivists studying the transition from historical manuscript traditions to organized musical libraries in the Netherlands.
