Where it came from
Eye of Flame is a surreal, dark manga series written and illustrated by Oshikiri Rensuke, a creator widely recognized for his distinct style that blends visceral horror with dark, unconventional humor. The work emerged from Oshikiri's long-standing interest in the unsettling and the grotesque, serving as a manifestation of his signature narrative approach where mundane reality is quickly dismantled by inexplicable, often violent, supernatural forces.
The series design reflects the author's intentional move toward raw, jagged line work and stark visual pacing, which prioritize emotional discomfort over polished aesthetics. Since its release, the volume has been noted by manga enthusiasts as a prime example of the author's ability to maintain a sense of dread throughout a serialized narrative, cementing his reputation as a unique voice in contemporary underground manga.
