Jahrbuch der Goethe-Gesellschaft. Beilage zum 1. (4., 12.) Band. Mitglieder-Verzeichnis

The Jahrbuch der Goethe-Gesellschaft was initiated by the Goethe-Gesellschaft in Weimar, an organization established in 1885 to promote the study and appreciation of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's life and works. The supplementary membership directories, or Mitglieder-Verzeichnis, were produced periodically as part of the society's scholarly efforts to document its extensive network of international supporters, academics, and literary enthusiasts. These volumes provided a formal record of the society's reach during the early 20th century, capturing the intellectual demographic that sustained Weimar classicism during a period of significant cultural transition in Germany.

The design of these volumes reflects the austere, academic sensibilities of the era, typically utilizing high-quality paper and clear, traditional typography suitable for institutional documentation. By cataloging the names and addresses of its members, the Goethe-Gesellschaft aimed to facilitate scholarly exchange and solidify the identity of the society. These supplements are highly valued by historians today, as they offer a granular look at the membership composition, geographical dispersion, and social status of those who participated in the institutional preservation of German literature during the society's formative years.
