Where it came from
Jigoku Sensei Nuubee: Ichiya dake no Fukkatsu, or 'Hell Teacher Nube: A One-Night Resurrection,' was released as a special one-shot manga volume in 2014. It serves as a nostalgic revival of the original supernatural comedy series created by writer Makura Shou and artist Okano Takeshi, which originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999. This revival was produced to celebrate the long-standing popularity of Meisuke Nueno, a schoolteacher who uses his demon hand to protect his students from malevolent spirits.
The design and artistic direction maintain the signature blend of horror and slapstick humor that defined the original series. The artwork, credited to Okano Takeshi, stays faithful to the kinetic character expressions and grotesque yokai designs that made the franchise a cult classic during the 1990s. Upon its release, the volume was received primarily as a gift to longtime fans who grew up with the anime and manga, successfully recapturing the atmosphere of the original run while updating the technical quality of the panels.
