Where it came from
Jigoku Sensei Nuubee Kai is a direct continuation of the classic 1990s supernatural horror-comedy manga Jigoku Sensei Nube. Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, the series follows Meisuke Nueno, a teacher at Domori Elementary who uses a demonic hand to protect his students from malevolent spirits. This revival, scripted by Makura Shou, reunites readers with the matured cast years after the conclusion of the original series, maintaining the blend of school-life antics and Japanese folklore-inspired horror.
The revival was designed to capitalize on the enduring nostalgia for the original series while updating the art style and narrative stakes for a modern audience. Makura Shou returned to steer the story, focusing on Nueno's life as a veteran educator dealing with more sophisticated spiritual threats. Upon its release, it was received as a respectful tribute to the source material, appealing primarily to long-time fans who grew up reading the adventures of the 'Nube' series in the nineties.
