Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 18

Moriarty the Patriot, written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, began its serialization in Shueisha's Jump Square in 2016. This series offers a subversive reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes canon, positioning Professor James Moriarty as a protagonist seeking to reform the corrupt class structure of Victorian-era Britain through calculated, often ruthless, means. The narrative design balances gothic atmosphere with intricate mystery, exploring the tension between established aristocratic power and the awakening of the common people.

Volume 18 continues this narrative trajectory under the English-language publication of VIZ Media, which has been instrumental in bringing the series to an international audience. The artistic style, defined by Miyoshi’s sharp character designs and atmospheric paneling, has been widely lauded for its ability to convey complex psychological stakes. By the time of this volume's release, the series had firmly cemented itself as a staple of the seinen demographic, celebrated for its dark thematic depth and successful integration of classic literary archetypes into a modern manga format.
