The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time, Volume 1

This edition serves as a significant scholarly compilation of the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the seminal English Romantic poet. Originally conceived to gather his entire poetic output, the collection includes not only his most famous verses such as The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Christabel but also experimental pieces and early drafts that provide insight into his creative process. It was designed to bridge the gap between casual readership and rigorous academic study, offering a comprehensive view of how Coleridge’s thematic focus on the supernatural and the sublime evolved over his lifetime.

The editorial effort behind this volume focuses on providing readers with a definitive text that accounts for the various revisions Coleridge made throughout his career. By including versions of poems published for the first time in this format, the editors aimed to preserve the integrity of his manuscripts against the often-altered versions that appeared in contemporary anthologies. This approach has been well-received by literary historians and collectors alike, who value the volume as a reliable resource for analyzing the structural and linguistic nuances of one of the nineteenth century's most influential writers.
