The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time, in Two Volumes ; Volume 2, Dramatic Works and Appendices

Published in 1912 by the Clarendon Press, this edition serves as a definitive scholarly effort by Ernest Hartley Coleridge, the poet's grandson, to consolidate the vast and often fragmented body of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s work. The project was conceived as a rigorous attempt to provide a complete, annotated collection that included previously unpublished versions and fragments, effectively establishing a more reliable textual foundation for Coleridge studies during the early twentieth century.

The editorial philosophy behind these two volumes focused on chronological accuracy and meticulous textual comparison, reflecting the meticulous academic standards of the Oxford University Press at the time. By categorizing the dramatic works and appendices in the second volume, Ernest Hartley Coleridge aimed to separate the poet’s mature theatrical experiments from his lyrical ballads. The collection was well-received by literary scholars for its thoroughness and scholarly apparatus, remaining a foundational reference for Coleridgean criticism for decades.
