The Orlando Furioso, Volume 1

Ludovico Ariosto first published his epic poem Orlando Furioso in 1516, drawing inspiration from the Carolingian cycles and the chivalric traditions of the Italian Renaissance. The work was written for the Este court in Ferrara, reflecting a transition toward more complex, humanist storytelling that blended heroic deeds with intricate, often ironic, romantic entanglements. It became a foundational text of Western literature, shaping the development of the epic genre across Europe for centuries.

The specific edition associated with this ISBN is a modern reprint of the classic text, designed to provide contemporary readers with access to Ariosto's magnum opus. These editions typically prioritize scholarly accessibility, often utilizing historical translations to preserve the poetic rhythm and narrative structure of the original Italian verses. While the design is utilitarian, it serves the vital purpose of maintaining the availability of a work that heavily influenced authors ranging from Cervantes to Milton.
