Ultramega By James Harren #4

Ultramega, released by Image Comics in 2021, emerged as a visceral, high-octane homage to the tokusatsu and kaiju genres. Created, written, and illustrated by James Harren, the series follows the legacy of giant heroes tasked with defending humanity from mysterious, monstrous entities. Harren, widely celebrated for his dynamic and kinetic art style previously seen in titles like B.P.R.D., utilized this series to push his signature intensity to new extremes, crafting a world defined by grotesque scale and brutal conflict.

Issue #4 serves as a pivotal installment in this serialized epic, further cementing Harren's reputation for fluid, heavy-hitting action sequences that feel both grounded and mythic. The design philosophy behind the work prioritizes raw visual storytelling, stripping back dense dialogue in favor of detailed, sweeping layouts. Upon release, the series was met with significant critical acclaim from the comics community, praised for its unique aesthetic and Harren’s ability to modernize classic giant-monster tropes with a dark, contemporary edge.
