Ultramega By James Harren Vol. 2

Ultramega is a bold, visceral action series created by cartoonist James Harren, first serialized by Image Comics in 2021. The series functions as an intense reimagining of the kaiju genre, heavily influenced by the visual energy of tokusatsu and manga. Harren, previously known for his dynamic work on titles like B.P.R.D. and Rumble, utilized this project to push his signature kinetic line work and explosive page layouts to their absolute limit, crafting a high-stakes world where giant monsters and their human conduits engage in brutal, world-ending conflict.

Volume 2 continues the narrative arc following the initial introduction of the Ultramega corps and the subsequent collapse of societal order. The design and aesthetic direction remain firmly rooted in Harren's obsession with weight, movement, and scale. Upon its release, the collection was received as a masterclass in modern comic book action choreography, earning praise from critics for its uncompromising commitment to visual storytelling over traditional exposition, cementing Harren's reputation as one of the most distinctive draftsmen in contemporary independent comics.
