Ultramega by James Harren #3

Ultramega, released by Image Comics beginning in 2021, emerged as a high-octane homage to the kaiju and tokusatsu genres. James Harren, an artist previously celebrated for his kinetic, fluid work on titles like B.P.R.D., served as both writer and illustrator for the series. The project was conceived as a visceral exploration of the emotional and physical toll of god-like beings battling in populated environments, aiming to blend classic giant-monster tropes with a gritty, hyper-detailed aesthetic.

The third issue continues the narrative progression of the series, maintaining Harren's signature style characterized by dense, frenetic linework and dynamic panel layouts. Upon its release, the series was well-received by critics and readers alike, who praised the book for its inventive creature designs and the relentless, cinematic intensity of the action sequences. It is widely considered a notable entry in modern indie creator-owned comics for its distinct visual language and unconventional approach to the superhero genre.
