Where it came from
Released in the Paramount War expansion (OP-02) of the One Piece Card Game in late 2022, the Kuzan character card—specifically the Secret Rare version—represents the former Marine Admiral Aokiji. The set was designed to capture the intensity of the Summit War arc, featuring artwork that emphasizes the character's signature ice-based abilities and his imposing presence within the Marine hierarchy.
The card was illustrated with a focus on capturing Kuzan’s calm yet formidable demeanor. As a pivotal character in the franchise, the design choices reflect his transition from a stalwart defender of Justice to a more morally ambiguous figure. Upon its release, it became a staple in Black-color decks due to its powerful board-control effect, which allows players to reduce the cost of opposing characters, mirroring Kuzan's strategic approach in combat.
