Where it came from
Saga of the East Blue, represented as card OP06-006 in the Wings of the Captain set, was released as part of the One Piece Card Game's sixth expansion. This set focused heavily on the East Blue Saga and the early journey of the Straw Hat Pirates, aiming to provide mechanical support for leaders and characters from that specific narrative era. The character design is rooted in the theatrical release One Piece Film: Strong World, where Saga serves as a central antagonist, a former swordsman turned corrupted marine.
The artwork for this card captures Saga's imposing presence, utilizing the distinct aesthetic style prevalent in the game's higher-rarity character cards to emphasize his role as a antagonist. By including him in the Wings of the Captain set, the developers sought to bridge cinematic content with the core trading card game mechanics, allowing players to build decks around the thematic elements of his martial prowess and dark history. It was well-received by collectors interested in movie-exclusive characters.
