Provenance

Where it came from

Thatch, card number OP02-007, was released in 2022 as part of the Paramount War expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to capture the intensity of the Marineford Arc, a pivotal storyline in the original manga series where the Whitebeard Pirates attempt to rescue Commander Portgas D. Ace from execution. The card represents the Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, a character whose tragic history serves as the primary catalyst for the conflict depicted in this collection.

The card features artwork consistent with the game’s aesthetic, which prioritizes dynamic, high-contrast illustrations meant to reflect the dramatic flair of Eiichiro Oda’s source material. As a character card in a strategic trading card game, its design is centered on utility within the game's mechanics, emphasizing the camaraderie and defensive strategies associated with the Whitebeard Pirates faction. The card has been well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and its role in maintaining the narrative integrity of the Paramount War set.
