Where it came from
Thatch, card OP02-007, was released as part of the Paramount War expansion for the One Piece Card Game in late 2022. This set focuses on the Marineford arc of the series, a pivotal narrative moment where the Whitebeard Pirates mobilize to rescue Portgas D. Ace from execution. As the former Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Thatch appears here in his classic attire, serving as a tactical piece within the game's Red-colored deck archetypes.
The card’s design aligns with the high-energy aesthetic of the Paramount War series, featuring bold illustrations that capture the character's recognizable appearance from the manga. Like many cards in this set, the artwork aims to balance character lore with functional gameplay mechanics, allowing players to utilize Thatch's ability to discard cards to draw new ones, a nod to his role within the Whitebeard crew's strategic operations. The set was met with strong interest from both competitive players and series fans upon its international launch.
