Where it came from
The Darkrai card, numbered BW73 in the Black Star Promos set, was released in 2013 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black & White series. It was distributed as a promotional item, typically bundled with specific toy or card accessory releases during the height of the Black & White era, intended to broaden the appeal of the Darkrai character, who had become a fan-favorite Mythical Pokémon since his introduction in the Diamond & Pearl generation.
The artwork features Darkrai in its signature ominous, shadow-like aesthetic, emphasizing its status as a Darkness-type Pokémon. The design follows the standard layout of the BW-era promo cards, characterized by a unique foil treatment and the distinct black star promotional set symbol. The card was well-received by players and collectors alike for its playability and its striking visual design, which effectively captured the dark and mysterious lore associated with the character.
