Where it came from
The Darkrai XY194 promo card was released in 2015 as part of the XY Black Star Promos series. This specific card was distributed primarily through the Mythical Pokémon Collection: Darkrai box, which allowed players and collectors to acquire the card alongside a selection of booster packs and a commemorative collector's pin. The release coincided with a larger promotional campaign designed to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Pokémon franchise by highlighting various Mythical Pokémon throughout the year.
The card features artwork by Naoki Saito, a prominent illustrator known for his dynamic and vibrant style within the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Saito’s depiction of Darkrai emphasizes the character's shadowy, ethereal nature, utilizing deep purple and black tones to contrast with the sharp, jagged forms characteristic of the Pokémon. Upon its release, the card was well-received by fans for its distinct holographic foil pattern and its utility in casual gameplay, remaining a recognizable staple for collectors of the XY-era promo sets.
