Where it came from
Thundurus (35/98) was released as part of the Emerging Powers expansion, which launched in the English Pokémon Trading Card Game market in August 2011. This set was notable for being the first to introduce the Generation V Pokémon from the Unova region to the TCG, following the release of the Black & White base set. The expansion was designed to showcase the legendary Forces of Nature trio, with Thundurus featured as a powerful Electric-type Pokémon.
The card features artwork by illustrator Noriko Hotta, who has contributed to the TCG for many years. Hotta’s design highlights the chaotic, storm-bringing nature of Thundurus, utilizing the characteristic foil treatment of the Rare Holo slot to emphasize the electrical energy inherent in the character's design. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a collectible centerpiece for players and fans looking to expand their Unova Pokédex within the TCG format.
