Where it came from
Thundurus (97/98) was released in 2011 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Emerging Powers expansion, which served as the first set to feature Generation V Pokémon from the Unova region. This specific card is a Rare Ultra, rendered as a Full Art illustration, a style that had recently gained significant traction among collectors for its immersive, borderless aesthetic that highlights the character's dynamic presence.
The card features artwork by 5ban Graphics, a creative collective frequently commissioned by The Pokémon Company for its distinct, high-gloss 3D digital style. As an Electric-type Legendary Pokémon, Thundurus is depicted with its signature cloud-like trail and aggressive, storm-bringing posture, reflecting its status as part of the 'Forces of Nature' trio alongside Tornadus and Landorus. The card was well-received upon release for its visual departure from standard card framing, cementing its place as a sought-after centerpiece for competitive players and visual collectors of the Black & White era.
