Blumenwalzer A. D. Nußknacker-Suite / Walzer A. D. Ballett "Dornröschen"

This 1960 release on the East German label ETERNA features Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s celebrated orchestral works, the 'Waltz of the Flowers' from The Nutcracker Suite and the waltz from The Sleeping Beauty. Produced during the height of the Cold War, ETERNA recordings were instrumental in promoting the cultural heritage of the German Democratic Republic, often showcasing the high caliber of orchestras like the Staatskapelle Berlin to both domestic and international audiences.

The recording is led by conductor Horst Stein, a figure noted for his precise and nuanced interpretations of the Romantic repertoire. The design of these ETERNA pressings typically focused on minimalist, functional aesthetics intended to emphasize the prestige of the performance and the quality of the state-run recording facilities. At the time of release, these records served as a accessible entry point for classical music appreciation, reflecting the period's broader institutional commitment to classical arts education.
